The Inner Wheel Club members from nearly all nine districts in the country nationwide met today – January 24, 2023, in celebration of the first anniversary of the Wheel Can Cerv: Stop Cervical Cancer held at the Rotary Center in Quezon City.
WHEEL CAN CERV: STOP CERVICAL CANCER
Wheel Can Cerv is an internationally directed project whose aim and purpose is to implement an extensive cervical awareness campaign on the causes, symptoms, and prevention of cervical cancer, and actual cervical screening testing among women who cannot otherwise afford the cost of cervical screening to be done on the first 10 days of January.
This project was endorsed to the International Inner Wheel (IIW) community by its then International President, Ebe Panitteri Martines for IIW Year 2021-2022, through efforts of then IIW Vice President Zenaida Farcon, then National President Yolly Wycoco, then District 383 Chairman, Jovita Bing De Jesus, then IWC Central Makati President, Gelyn Soleman
THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY WHEEL CAN CERV
This year’s anniversary was celebrated with a short program followed by a motorcade. Highlights of the morning activity can be found below:
A cervical cancer screening test ensued after the motorcade followed by a DZRH interview led by Ms Mae Binauhan.
A graduate of the esteemed Far Eastern University - Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, Dr. Rivera is a radiation oncologist by profession, equipped with specialized training in IMRT and prostate brachytherapy. His expertise has been honed through experiences at renowned institutions such as the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas and the Chicago Prostate Center in Chicago, among others.However, his contributions extend far beyond the clinical realm. Dr Bogs Rivera is the visionary founder of CerviQ, an advocacy group passionately committed to eradicating cervical cancer in the Philippines. Through innovative screening programs, leveraging artificial intelligence and remote diagnostic technologies, CerviQ strives to increase access to cervical cancer screenings in communities, facilitating early detection and potentially life-saving interventions.His leadership not only empowers healthcare professionals but also empowers communities, enabling barangay health workers to conduct screenings efficiently and accurately, with rapid turnaround times for results. Dr. Bogs Rivera embodies the intersection of medical expertise and humanitarianism, dedicated to improving healthcare outcomes and championing the cause of public health in the Philippines.
