Advancing Seamless Screening Through Digital Innovation
Marikina City continued its commitment to women’s health with the third Thursday run of its Free Cervical Cancer Screening Program, highlighting an important milestone in the city’s screening initiative—the introduction of a new digital system developed in collaboration with Care Connect Philippines.

This innovation is the result of a collaborative effort between Care Connect Philippines and End Cervical Cancer Philippines Organization Inc. (CerviQ), supporting the city’s growing use of speculoscope-assisted Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) in community-based cervical cancer screening.

The shared goal is simple but transformative: to make cervical cancer screening seamless, organized, and scalable for local government health systems.
Making Screening Seamless
The newly introduced system streamlines the entire patient journey—from registration to diagnosis—making the screening process faster and more efficient for both patients and healthcare providers.
Patients can now register through a QR code, either onsite at the clinic or remotely before arriving. For patients who may not be comfortable with digital tools, health workers can assist with registration, ensuring accessibility for everyone.

Once registered, the clinic manager schedules patients according to their arrival time, creating an organized flow throughout the day. A queue management system, similar to those used in banks, can also be implemented, where patient numbers are displayed on a screen and called when it is their turn.
During screening, the speculoscope-assisted VIA procedure is performed and images of the cervix are captured. These images are securely uploaded to the cloud, allowing physicians to review them either onsite or remotely.

Doctors then evaluate the findings and counsel the patient when necessary. Once the diagnosis is finalized, the system can automatically generate a ready-to-print medical report, which can be printed immediately or saved digitally for records.

By integrating digital workflow with clinical practice, the system helps reduce delays, improve documentation, and enhance patient navigation.
Supporting the Speculoscope Program
The collaboration between Care Connect Philippines and CerviQ strengthens Marikina’s vision of expanding speculoscope-assisted VIA as a practical and scalable tool for community-based cervical cancer screening.
Through digital integration, screening programs can better track patients, organize clinical data, and improve reporting—helping healthcare teams focus on what matters most: screening more women and detecting disease earlier.
Rotating Midwives Lead the Day
Marikina’s screening program also continues to emphasize capacity building through rotating midwives from different health centers.
For this week’s session, the participating midwives came from Concepcion Uno Health Center and Parang Health Center. Through their dedication and teamwork, the two midwives successfully screened 17 women during the day’s activity.
Each session strengthens the confidence and technical skills of frontline health workers, gradually building the city’s ability to sustain screening programs across its health centers.

Schedule Update
The city reminds the public that there will be no screening on March 12.
The next screening session will resume on March 19, continuing the city’s weekly Thursday initiative to bring accessible cervical cancer screening services closer to the community.

Moving Forward
Marikina’s weekly screening program continues to evolve—not only through training and collaboration, but also through innovation in digital health systems.
Through partnerships with Care Connect Philippines and CerviQ, the city is building a model where technology, training, and teamwork work together to make cervical cancer screening faster, more accessible, and sustainable.
Every Thursday moves Marikina one step closer to a future where early detection becomes routine and cervical cancer becomes preventable. 💗
