This is an enhanced version of Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) where we use a special camera (speculoscope) to:

    • Magnify and clearly visualize the cervix similar to a colposcope
    • Capture images for documentation
    • Allow expert review if needed

🧠 Why This Screening is Important?

Cervical cancer is:

    • One of the most preventable cancers
    • Detectable at an early stage
    • Treatable if found early

In the Philippines, about 12 women die every day from this disease.

.

⚠️ Important: Preparation Before Your Appointment

To ensure accurate results:

    • ❌ If you have had a total hysterectomy and your cervix was removed, you likely no longer need Pap smears.
    • ❌ Avoid intercourse 24–48 hours before
    • ❌ Avoid vaginal medications or douching
    • ❌ Do NOT schedule during menstruation

.

⏱️ What to Expect During the Procedure

    • Takes about 10–15 minutes
    • A speculum will be gently inserted
    • A mild acetic acid solution is applied
    • Images of your cervix shall be taken and may be shown and explained to you.

.

⚠️ Possible Results

    • ✔ Normal findings
    • ⚠️ Suspicious changes (may need treatment or referral)

.

If Treatment is Needed…

If abnormalities are found:

    • Some cases can be treated immediately (e.g., thermal ablation)
    • Some cases may need cervical biopsy
    • Others may be referred to partner hospitals
