What is CERVIQ?

CERVIQ is a mobile application or APP, that enables non-physician professionals (e.g. midwives, nurses), conduct cervical cancer screening using visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) and Smartphone cervicography.
CERVICOGRAPHY is a diagnostic medical procedure in which a non-physician takes pictures of the cervix and submits them to a physician for interpretation via a digital medium. Images sent are then interpreted by a pool of specialized medical experts. Screening results, medical prescription if needed, or referrals for treatment/workup is sent back to the non-physician for printing, to be handed to the patient.

WHO CAN USE CERVIQ?

  • INDEPENDENT PRIVATE PRACTICING MIDWIFE living in the far-flung areas of the country can apply for cervical screening and CerviQ mobile app training to conduct cervical screening.
  • LABORATORY CLINICS. How many times have you gone into a nearby laboratory near you instead of getting a lab test in the hospital? The truth is convenience matters. With CerviQ, cervical cancer screening becomes available at any time of the day. You need not wait for your doctor as the images can be transferred to them directly for interpretation.
  • BARANGAY HEALTH CENTERS. Cervical Cancer Screening can be done at the barangay level. As long as you employ a trained midwife or nurse, you can get the screening done by trained barangay health workers (BHW) and relay images to doctors for interpretation, with real-time results.
  • LYING IN CLINICS and DOCTORS CLINIC. Patients need not wait for long hours for Medical Specialist to come. Trained nurses can conduct the screening, take a photo of the cervix and send it to the medical specialist who can be anywhere at any time of the day for interpretation.
  • DOCTORS. Obstetrics and Gynecologists can refer cases to more senior colleagues specializing either in the cervical pathologies (Fellow, Philippine Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology), cancer (Fellow, Society of Gynecologic Oncology of the Philippines), or Infectious diseases (Fellow, Philippine Infectious Diseases Society of OB and Gynecology).

🎉 Kudos to HEPU Lungsod ng Sto. Tomas, Batangas — A Truly Remarkable Milestone! 💜
A heartfelt congratulations to the Health Education and Promotions Unit (HEPU) of the City of Santo Tomas, Batangas, led by the inspiring Dr. Arnielyn Marasigan-Aguirre and the ever-committed Ms. Joy Ferreras! 🙌
Over the course of 21 cervical cancer screening days, a total of 571 women have been screened — averaging 27 women per day! 📈✨ This incredible achievement is a reflection of relentless dedication, passion, and an unwavering commitment to women's health.
A special shoutout goes to ALL BARANGAY LEADERS, MEEMBERS who went above and beyond, helping pool more than 30 women per screening day. Your exceptional leadership and genuine compassion are saving lives and setting a powerful example for others. Your efforts show what is possible when communities come together with a shared purpose — protecting the health and future of women. 💜
Cervical cancer screening saves lives — early detection prevents unnecessary suffering and death. Every screening day brings us closer to the Department of Health’s (DOH) vision under the Cervical Cancer Elimination Campaign, aiming to screen at least 5% of the total at-risk population this year — that’s several thousands of women that need to be reached!
It’s UNFORTUNATE, however, that SOME barangays could only GATHER 7 to 8 women per screening day. 😔 To those communities, we HOPE you REALIZE the OPPORTUNITY being MISSED. In Manila, this life-saving procedure can cost up to ₱2,500 — yet here, it’s being made ACCESSIBLE FOR FREE. Screening could spare lives — sometimes all it takes is spreading information and persuading women to seize the chance to get checked.
Mabuhay, HEPU! Mabuhay to all leaders and champions who recognize the urgency and importance of this mission! Together, let’s continue moving closer to a future free of cervical cancer. 💪💜
